Cardboard & Plastic Compaction

Cardboard waste is a pressing concern in Australia due to the ever-expanding e-commerce industry, generating 1.9 million tonnes annually. This places pressure on landfills and the unwanted release of detrimental emissions through decomposition and incineration. However, solutions are emerging to boost recycling efficiency: recycling programs, sustainable packaging, and advanced technologies like renewable energy. Government initiatives, like the National Packaging Targets, mandate diverting cardboard waste from landfills, working towards future sustainability. Collaboration and awareness among communities, councils, and organisations are essential for realising a cardboard waste-free Australia.

Waste Initiatives are helping businesses address these challenges
by providing beneficial solutions through baling and compacting equipment, specifically designed to address the pressing issues of soaring waste expenses, frequent bin emptying, time efficiency, space optimisation, and the promotion of strong workplace health and safety practices. These transformative solutions not only resolve immediate challenges but also empower our clients to actively participate in shaping a more sustainable future.

Waste Initiatives specialises in recycling equipment to streamline cardboard waste management, leading to cost savings, improved efficiency, and sustainability, while aligning with government-supported recycling initiatives in Australia.

Low Volumes Cardboard Compaction

40-100 kg p/day

Reducing cardboard waste in small businesses with lower volumes (up to 100 kg p/day) is a primary motivation to invest in compacting equipment, such as WastePac’s vertical balers.

These balers, such as the WastePac 60, are designed for tight spaces in retail stores, offices, and urban venues. They handle boxes up to 1 meter wide and offer custom bale weights with a pressing force of up to 6 tons, making them ideal for cardboard recycling.

WastePac also offer a low-volume multi-chamber baler for sorting and baling various materials simultaneously. These units provide time- and labor-saving solutions, optimise commodity value, and reduce transport costs while addressing small businesses’ safety and environmental concerns.

Bin presses further reduce waste collection costs by compacting standard bin sizes like the 240 L at a 5:1 compression ratio. The 1100 L Bin Press compacts waste into existing 1100 L or 660 L bins at a 3:1 compression rate, while the WastePac Bag Press offers an astounding 10:1 ratio, ideal for tight spaces benefiting premises such as retail, nursing homes, offices, small hospitality, hospitals, and cinemas.

Medium Volumes Cardboard Compaction

100-300 kg p/day

Waste Initiatives offers innovative solutions for efficient cardboard waste management. Their range of balers and compactors is designed to maximise space utilisation and minimise manual labor while handling moderate cardboard waste volumes, typically ranging from 100 to 300 kgs p/day.

A standout performer, the WastePac 300 Low Height Baler is ideal for medium-volume cardboard waste, accommodating large boxes up to 1.2 meters wide and exerting a pressing force of up to 20 tons. It automatically produces 300 kg bales, making it suitable for facilities with limited vertical space.

The WastePac 200 Multi Chamber Baler is versatile, with up to 6 optional chambers for continuous loading while others compact, making it an excellent choice for space-restricted areas. It exerts a pressing force of up to 16 tons, producing bales up to 200 kg with automatic ejection.
For low labour efficiency, the PS1400 Roto Baler, an automated baler, features a rotating compaction head for efficient cardboard waste compaction in plastic bale bags on pallets. Alternatively, the APS1100 Roto Compactor effectively compacts cardboard within an 1100L wheelie bin. Both have a compaction rate of 10:1, and retail stores favour them for their ease of use and small footprint.

High Volumes Cardboard Compaction

300+ kg p/day

At Waste Initiatives, we specialise in providing solutions for compacting and managing high-volume cardboard waste, exceeding 300 kg daily. We serve a diverse clientele, including large-scale retail, manufacturing, wholesale, and industrial sectors.

WastePac’s Heavy Duty Vertical Balers, including the WastePac 450 HD and WastePac 550, efficiently compact high-density cardboard into 450 kg and 550 kg bales respectively, featuring long hydraulic rams, an automated bale ejector, and an optional galvanised model.

Our WastePac Horizontal Balers cater to the Australian industrial market, offering versatile Semi-Automatic Balers such as the HX400-38T, HX500-38T, and HX600-50T. These balers are a balance of automation and operator control, creating high-density bales with up to 50 T pressing force. Automatic horizontal baler models include CS Auto, CM Auto, and CL Auto-tie Horizontal Baler for manufacturing, distribution centres, recycling facilities, and paper mills, handling applications like OCC and ONP. Our horizontal balers are known for their energy efficiency, robust construction, low maintenance, adaptability to various materials, user-friendly touchscreen interfaces, and automation.

Waste compactors effectively manage waste by compressing it, reducing storage needs and collection frequency. They enhance disposal efficiency, improve hygiene, and offer cost savings and sustainability through reduced waste volume and lower transportation costs. Waste Initiatives offers stationary, integrated, and mobile compactors, customisable to a range of diverse cardboard waste management needs.

WastePac’s stationary compactors, starting with the SC1000, offer
a small footprint and powerful compaction for retail environments.
For higher throughput, the SC3000 features a low-profile packing blade and high compaction force, ideal for industrial settings.

The H&G Single and Dual Screw Augers excel in compact spaces, seamlessly handling the consistent loading and compaction of cardboard waste. These systems offer versatility through add-ons such as feeders, chutes, hoppers, and conveyors, making them ideal for sites with limited space.

Our Bergmann Roll Packers use a rolling drum to crush and compact waste, making them popular for their mobility and high waste density. The user-friendly RP7700 Roll Packer handles bulky waste in open-top skip bins, while the RP7700V Roll Packer designed for use in large industrial facilities, traversing on rails and can be configured for up to 10 parallel bins. The self-propelled RPM7700 Mobile Roll Packer, is ideal for saw-tooth transfer stations, achieving high bin weights and on-site skip bin transport. These innovations enhance efficiency and promote better waste management while saving costs.
