    Product Destruction Units

Waste is a big issue for businesses in Australia. Unused products not only pose an environmental challenge, but they cost money. What cannot be used must be destroyed, but it doesn’t have to hurt the planet or your profitability.Depackaging systems let organisations destroy products that are unsuitable for sale, in a way that preserves the brand, business profitability and the environment.

Product destruction is done with one of two types of product destruction units:

The Paddle Depacker depackaging systems separate packaging from organic material to reduce waste and produce a clean organic product suitable for biogas installations. This unit is a staple in the grocery and consumables sectors, separating consumable food products from their packaging fast and efficiently to leave you with separate biogas additives and waste or recyclable materials.

For shop and restaurant returns, the Martinater grinds food products that are suitable for recycling and/or biogas additives. For restaurants, cafes, caterers and events offering food, the Martinater provides a way to dispose of leftovers, out of date stock and otherwise unusable foodstuffs, converting it into a commodifiable product itself. We understand that not all businesses have the space or budget to house one of these units on site. Waste Initiatives offers commercial hire purchases to fit any business waste needs. Whether you’re running an event that needs a short-term rental or bringing together an in-house waste management solution that requires financing or leasing, we can craft a solution that meets your requirements.

Beyond consumables, we also deal with waste management of cardboard and paper, e-waste, general waste, recycling across the entire spectrum, and much more. Whatever your waste management and recycling needs, Waste Initiatives has the expertise to design solutions that optimise your unwanted items.

Frequently Asked Questions: Product Destruction Units

What is a product destruction unit/depackaging system?

Our product destruction units are industrial machines designed to process packaged or unpackaged food waste into a slurry by separating the packaging from the organic contents for further processing into compost or biofuels used as animal feed. They are also called depackaging systems as the equipment also unpackages and separates the plastic from the food waste through the process.

How does a product destruction system work?

Packaged food and beverages are loaded into a product destruction system’s vat or hopper, and then once the machine is turned on a large rotating arm or paddle crushes all the products. The internal screens then help push out two separated 99.5% clean waste streams: food waste and packaging.

What is the difference between a product destruction unit and a depackaging system?

‘Product destruction units’ can refer to a range of different machines designed to destroy products. When searching for one online, it’s easier to find product destruction units that are offered as a service to securely destroy sensitive products that can discredit a brand, such as counterfeit products or expired goods. This is generally via shredding the product or material to liberate the contents or destroy it.

At Waste Initiatives, we provide product destruction units that are well suited to processing food waste and beverage for reuse as compost or biogas. Which works in the same vein as any depackaging system.

What type of product destruction unit is suitable for me?

Martinaters are perfect for processing shop and restaurant waste, while paddle depackers are well suited for processing food waste for waste management facilities. Both provide 99.5% clean organic material at the end of the process for biogas or compost.

Besides that, you should select a unit based on the capacity you require:

    • 1 - 5 m3/h Paddle Depacker S
    • 15 - 30m3/h Paddle Depacker
    • 4.5 - 10m3/h Marinater 500
    • 7.5 - 20m3/h Marinater 700

Our product destruction units at Waste Initiatives can also be fitted in with a range of optional extras to give your unit extra functionality, such as different screen and hopper sizes to cater to your waste volume requirements, a bin tipper or conveyor feed for easy machine feeding, water sprayer for wet processing and a liquid catchment tank to catch the separated liquid.

If you need more assistance about what depackaging systems equipment is most suitable for your wet or dry application, please contact us. Our knowledgeable staff are always happy to help you find the machine your business needs, through a financing option that suits you.

Can large objects be reduced into particle size?

Yes! Large food products in depackaging systems are reduced into very tiny pieces, and with our depackers, will often come out in a slurry.

How to maintain a product destruction unit?

Operating your product destruction unit in the proper and safe way is important in protecting your machine against fault. On receiving your product description unit, our specialists will also provide training to your team so that you understand how to operate the equipment and a manual for reference.

Every depacker in our range is also created with a low maintenance design, for ease of use in your workplace. We also recommend that you talk to us about scheduling a preventative maintenance plan, to have a technician inspect and look after your machines before any wear and tear escalates to larger faults.
